It is especially difficult for those who live outside Russia. Inheritance is opened at the last place of residence of the deceased, and if that is Moscow while you are in Germany, Israel, or the USA, it is practically impossible to personally submit an application to a notary within the six-month deadline.
Important: Russian law allows six months from the date of death of the deceased to accept inheritance. Missing this deadline does not deprive you of the right to inherit, but significantly complicates the procedure — requiring court proceedings instead of notarial registration.
